Joyce Leveston Brings 30 Years’ Experience to Spectra’s Convention Center Group; Thompson Hospitality, Aramark Alum William Hughston Leading Human Resources Department
PHILADELPHIA (September 30, 2019)— Spectra, an industry leader in venue management, food & hospitality and partnerships, has named two new leaders to its executive team: Joyce Leveston as the new Senior Vice President of Convention Centers, and William Hughston as Spectra’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources.
Joyce has spent her 30-year career seamlessly running major convention centers across the nation, most recently as General Manager in Boston’s Hynes Convention Center and Boston Convention & Exhibitions Center. Previously, she held positions at Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., the Spectra-run Miami Beach Convention Center, the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas; and the San Diego Convention Center.
Joyce holds industry memberships with PCMA, IAEE, ASAE, AIPC and currently sits on the committee for diversity and inclusion for IAVM. She received her CMP in 1997, her Certified Meeting Management (CMM) in 2015, and her Certified Venue Professional (CVP) recognition last year in 2018.
“In joining forces with the amazing talent at Spectra, I look forward to mentoring teams, fostering growth, and building future leaders across our 46 convention centers,” Leveston said. “Having managed mammoth operations and big-name events—from the Superbowl to the Presidential Inaugural Ball—I am excited to share my day-to-day know-how, as well as strategic oversight with this team moving into the future of private management.”
William Hughston also joins Spectra as the organization’s new Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Most recently, William was Senior Vice President, Human Resources with Thompson Hospitality Corporation, where he executed local, regional and corporate initiatives across the organization. His background also includes various leadership positions with Aramark, Lowes Home Improvement, The Target Corporation, and The Home Depot.
Hughston is tasked with introducing a strategic vision to Spectra’s corporate and field human resources teams, including HR business partners, talent acquisition, talent development, performance management, and benefits and compensation. As an authority on change management, William has deep experience transforming the HR organization into a more consultative function, helping to drive business metrics and deliver on strategic goals.
“I look forward to using my experience as a leader in the hospitality industry to find highly impactful and innovative ways to attract, retain and develop the talent needed to support the growth of our organization,” Hughston said. “As the leader of Spectra’s human resources team, my mission is to enable and equip our business partners with the necessary tools and competencies to achieve the goals of the organization, as well as meet the expectations of our clients and customers.”
John Page, Spectra’s President of Venue Management, added: “We couldn’t be more excited to fill these two major positions with such high-caliber talent, and are certain that the addition of William and Joyce will both drive new business and attract top talent. Not only does this pair bring a collective half-century of industry insight and on-the-job leadership to their roles, but their passion for people shines through in everything that they do. They are forces in the industry for a reason: their proven abilities to optimize the day-to-day, while keeping a 10,000-foot view on the strategic vision.”
Hughston began his role August 26, and Leveston started September 3. Both are located at Spectra Headquarters in Philadelphia.
